Club Constitution
(As adopted by a general meeting in 1974/75 and amended by the Annual General Meeting held on 14 May 2014 and on 20 May 2015.
1. The Club was originally known as the Ecclesall N.P.C. Chess Club but on moving to the Robin Hood public house in Millhouses in 1982 became known as Ecclesall Chess Club.
2. Objects
A) To provide the highest possible standard of chess for all our members.
B) To enter teams in competitions.
C) Never to forget that chess is only a game.
3. Rules
A) At least half the paid up members of the Club shall form a quorum. A quorum shall not be necessary except in clearly specified cases.
B) New rules will be passed only if a quorum is present.
C) Rules may not be altered unless a quorum is present.
D) Annual election of Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer – this can only take place if a quorum is present. Otherwise these officials will be returned unopposed.
E) In the event of more than two candidates seeking the same post more than one vote will be taken, the candidate with the lowest number of votes dropping out after each vote.
F) If a Chairman, Secretary or Treasurer resigns or dies, then the Annual General Meeting or a Special Emergency Meeting will elect his successor. A quorum will not be necessary, but if there are more than two candidates Rule E will apply.
G) The Chairman will be allowed to propose, nominate and second, but will have the casting vote only.
H) Annual subscriptions will be collected at the end of the season, normally by the Team Captains. The levels of subscription will be set at Annual General Meetings.
I) Members should be given at least 7 days notice of any meeting at which a quorum might be required.
J) The Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer and Team Captains will together comprise the Club committee which will meet as necessary to discuss Club business.
